Cricket

Cricket is one of the newest sports in DCS reflecting the interests of our students and it is thriving. In partnership with a local club, Cork Harlequins CC, the school has invested in and developed a top class 3 netting bay indoor facility which is the only one in the province.

We field a team in both the Junior and Senior Munster t20 Cups as well as developing players who represent Munster in Interprovincial competitions.

Cricket firmly falls into the category of “A Sport for All” as there are 3 distinct disciplines in the game - batting, bowling and fielding so there is a part of the game to suit everyone. The squad train weekly throughout the winter honing their skills and improving their technique in preparation to play for the school and their clubs during the outdoor season.

Our state of the art custom built 3 bay indoor training facility was officially opened in November 2021 by Ireland’s Mens Cricket captain, Andrew Balbirnie. This allows students to access live batting and bowling sessions on indoor cricket mats in enclosed nets using softballs for the novices and hard ball for the more experienced. It is the perfect environment to enjoy the social and physical benefits of the sport.
