Spotlight on Global Justice: Our Journey in the Trócaire Documentary Film Making Competition
Our school recently took part in the Trócaire Documentary Film Making Competition, an inspiring event that brings together young voices to highlight some of the most pressing global justice issues of our time. Hosted in the Light House Cinema in Smithfield, Dublin, the final showcased the work of eleven schools from across the country, each offering powerful perspectives on topics aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Our documentary took an in-depth look at the world of fast fashion, exploring its impact both globally and locally. From the often-overlooked exploitation in garment factories abroad to the hidden environmental cost of throwaway clothing, we aimed to shed light on how consumer choices ripple across the planet. We also brought the issue closer to home through an insightful interview with a local charity shop, discussing the importance of reuse, recycling, and supporting ethical fashion. The documentary concluded with practical steps we, as a school community, can take to help maintain a circular economy.
The standard of competition was incredibly high, with each entry demonstrating creativity, passion and a commitment to justice. Every documentary was rooted in meaningful storytelling and a deep understanding of global challenges.
In this highly competitive field we are delighted that our film achieved third place—a remarkable achievement given the strength and diversity of the entries.
This experience has deepened our awareness of global issues and empowered us to use our voices for positive change. We are grateful to Trócaire for providing this platform and to everyone who supported us on this journey.
