Inspirational Enterprise Stories

Our TY Enterprise group enjoyed a very informative morning in MTU yesterday as part of the Student Enterprise Programme. They received expert guidance on report writing, interview preparation and marketing. Guest speakers on the day fondly recounted their entrepreneurial journeys, the highs and the lows.

DCS past pupil Frank Brennan, now CEO of Republic of Work, inspired students with his very interesting story. He started cutting grass at the age of 12 to fund a new skateboard, diversed into many careers during his twenties always up for a challenge wanting to do something new and exciting.  Having been made redundant from his job in 2017 he answered an ad for a Community Associate in Republic of Work, the business which he now proudly owns.

West Cork entrepreneur, Gemma Kingston, founder of The Family Edit had an equally inspiring story. She told us how she is just an ordinary person who followed her passion through life starting with a babysitter club, to working in banking and primary school teaching. Her eureka moment came when she needed to solve a lack of information problem as a mother of 3 under 3yrs. The Family Edit, a trusted space with timely information for parents and families was born.

As both Frank and Gemma highlighted, you don’t have to have it all worked out. A big thanks to Cathy Fitzgibbon from the Student Enterprise Programme for organising such a worthwhile event.
