DCS Athletes Impress At South Munster Track And Field

DCS athletes delivered an outstanding performance at the South Munster Schools Track and Field Championships, highlighted by a superb double victory from Ben O’Reilly. Ben dominated a highly competitive field to claim gold in both the 3000m and 1500m, showcasing exceptional strength and race control.

In the 3000m, 6th year student Leo Murray produced an excellent run to secure second place, demonstrating great determination and smart pacing throughout. He returned to compete in a stacked 1500m field, finishing a very respectable fourth and rounding off a strong individual campaign. Ben and Leo will step up to the 5000m in the upcoming Munsters aiming to build on their recent success and challenge for top honours once again. TY athlete Conor Hughes was unlucky not to medal in a very tough race with a 4th place finish in the Senior Boys 200m.

There were impressive results across the Intermediate Boys events. Conor O’Brien claimed second place in the 800m, earning qualification for the Munster Finals. Eoin Herlihy also booked his place in the Munsters with a fourth-place finish in the Steeplechase, while Sam O’Connor secured third in the 400m hurdles. The Intermediate Boys 4x100m relay team of Conor O’Brien, Evan Minihane, Seán Harrington and Eoin Herlihy represented the school with great pride and teamwork.

In the Junior section DCS athletes continued their strong form. Tommy Murphy and Adam Ahern delivered a fantastic 1st and 2nd place finish in the 100m, both qualifying for the Munster Championships. Alongside Cian Scanlon and David Hunter, they also powered to victory in the 4x100m relay. David Hunter added to the success with a second-place finish in the Junior Boys 1500m, securing another Munster qualification.

Attention now turns to the Munster Schools Track and Field Championships later this month.

Well done to all DCS athletes on a fantastic day of competition and the best of luck in the Munsters!
