Transition Year                                                2014 – 2015




A full programme is operated throughout the school year in the following subjects, with a view to building on the work done in Junior School and establishing a solid foundation for Leaving Cert:


Maths Physical Education
Irish Religious Education
English Computers / ECDL
French / German




Three week taster modules in the first term in all of the following option subjects for Leaving Certificate, before the students choose the subjects in which they wish to specialise (which they will commence in January):


Biology Accounting Geography Construction
Chemistry Business History Engineering
Physics Economics Art Tech Drawing


Additional seven/eight week activity modules, each module being allotted three classes per week.  Each student will take four of these on Wednesdays, when not at Community Service:


Food Safety Horticulture
Technology Design Mini-company
Art and Craft Log On Learn Computers Older People


COMMUNITY SERVICE Wednesday morning each week for half of the school year, either September to December (classes 4A and 4B) or January to May (classes 4C and 4D)


The Transition Year Show Takes place on 3,4,5 December 2014, and will involve all of the students in at least one of the areas of activity: acting, dancing, singing, music, set design/construction, publicity, sound production and front-of-house


In the second half of the year the students run workshops in the various show-related activities, for groups of schoolchildren who come into the school from our neighbouring primary schools


WORK EXPERIENCE Two weeks for all students, starting on Monday 23rd of February and finishing on Friday 6th of March 2014
