Junior Cert Top Student
We were delighted to receive the news today that one of our students Brian Murray has achieved, along with six others in the country, the highest result in the Junior Certificate.
Brian attained Twelve A’s, all in higher level subjects.
Brian has excelled not just in the academic field. He is a member of he Irish Youth Orchestra and the Cork Youth Orchestra. He an accomplished athlete, representing his school. He was part of the intermediate team who won the County and Provincial Cross Country championships. He also runs for
his club, Togher Athletics, in a variety of distances. Brian’s subjects include Mathematics, Science, Music, Business Studies and Technical Graphics.

Douglas Community School Athletics Report
First year students got their first taste of Cross-Country running at the annual 1st year Cross-Country Leagues held at the school recently. Four races were held with each class racing on their own.
The NA1 class was first into action with Bryan Desmond having a super run to win in a time of 3.33. Klavs Ozolins was 2nd with Bryan Lane 3rd. Mark McTighe won the NE1 class race in a time of 3.34 with Patrick O’ Sullivan 2nd and Oisin Dwane 3rd. Andrew O’ Keeffe won the NP1 class race in an impressive 3.31 with Adrian O’ Connell 2nd and Brian McAuliffe 3rd.
The last race of the day was the NS1 class. Here Emmet Bracken had an outstanding run to run the fastest time of the day with 3.30, with Eoin Bourke 2nd and Jimmy Bourke 3rd. The medals were presented by Irish Olympic athlete Robert Heffernan who recently finished 6th at the World T&F Championships in Japan.
All in all a fun day was had by all. Hopefully these young recruits will keep the athletics tradition going strong for the school in the coming months!!!
