Douglas Community School Athletics Report

Douglas Community School athletes have had a busy week competing in the
South Munster Schools Cross-Country Championships at Midleton CBS and the
Ras Na hEireann International Cross-Country event held in Co. Louth.

At the South Munster Championships the team dominated winning 3 out of the 4 team
titles and winning the best overall school cup.

The Minor team came 2nd led
by Conor Foley, Mark O’ Sullivan, Ian Tobin and David Kelly.

The Junior team
came 1st led by Peter Hanrahan, Shaun Healy, Cullen Lynch, David Broughal
and Rob Lyons.

The Inter team came 1st led by a superb run from Richard
Quirke and he was ably assisted by David O’ Keeffe, Adam Kelleher and
Michael Carroll.

The Senior team also came 1st with Craig Murphy easily
winning the race and there were other great performances from Matthew
Murphy, Eric Murphy and Craig Harrington.

At the Ras Na hEireann International Cross-Country event the school had 2
teams competing u15 and u17. The u15 team produced an outstanding display to
win the team title. They were once again led by great runs from Peter
Hanrahan, Shaun Healy, Cullen Lynch, Mark O’ Sullivan and Ian Tobin. The
combined u17/u19 race over 4,000m resulted in the team coming 3rd, with a
South African team winning the race. Richard Quirke and David O’ Keeffe ran
superbly. Congratulations to all the team on some fine performances.
