Douglas Community School athletes competed in the Munster Cross-Country Championships on Sunday 22nd October held at Tralee Racecourse. The course was flat and fast and each race had big numbers competing.
First into action was the U14 team all of whom were competing in their first ever Munster Championships. The team finished 6th with outstanding runs from Shaun Healy, Robert O Neill, Cullen Lynch and Ian Tobin. Both Shaun Healy and Robert O Neill were named on the Cork team for the All-Ireland Cross-Country Championships to be held In November.
The U16 team had a great battle with Ferrybank AC from Waterford narrowly missing out on team gold by 5 points. Michael Carroll, Adam Kelleher and Peter Hanrahan led the team with superb performances. Other team members included Dave O Keeffe, Alan O Brien, Connor O Brien, David Broughal, Chris Murphy, Aaron Noonan, Liam Kenefick, Owen O Connor, Cillian Bracken.
The U18 team without the services of star athlete Craig Murphy, finished a very creditable 3rd led home by Matthew Murphy. Other team members included Eric Murphy, Richard Quirke, John Kidney, Rob Cronin, Craig Harrington and Alex Kelly.
