Athletes from Douglas Community School competed in the Riverstick/Kinsale open cross-country on Sunday 10th in perfect weather conditions. A tough undulating course greeted the athletes but the Douglas boys stood up to the challenge. The u14 team was made up of new 1st year students who had never competed before. The team finished in a fantastic 1st place and comprised of Andrew O Keeffe, Conor Foley, David Kelly, Nicky Dunlea, Samuel Oladunjoye, David Chesby and Jason Moloney. The u16 team also dominated their race with Adam Kelleher leading the team home in 2nd place. The team came 1st also and comprised of Adam Kelleher, Michael Carroll, Alan O Brien, David O Keeffe, Peter Hanrahan, Brian Murray, Stephen Ring, David Broughal, Liam Kenefick and Chris Murphy. The u18 team raced over the 3km distance and finished a very creditable 2nd place, led home by Eric Murphy in 3rd place. Other members of the team included Richard Quirke, Rob Cronin, John Kidney, Craig Harrington and Alex Kelly. Some great performances by all and this marks the beginning of a long cross-country season for the Douglas Boys.
