Douglas Community School athletes competed in the All-Ireland Cross-Country
Championships last weekend. It was held in the grounds of St Augustines
College Dungarvan on a flat and fast course. Irelands top young athletes
gathered for a great days racing.
Douglas athletes returned with 4 All-Ireland medals. The u16 team finished 7th led home by Michael Carroll. Both Michael and Adam Kelleher helped the Cork team to finish 3rd. Cullen
Lynch and Robert O Neill both competed in their first ever All-Irelands and
ran superb. Robert won a medal with the Cork team who came 3rd. Star
performance of the day came from Craig Murphy in the u18 race.
Craig has had a fantastic season and it continued on Sunday. Competing against the best
athletes in the country he crossed the line in 1st place to the delight of
his family and friends. Congratulations are due to Craig who has trained 6
days a week to achieve his goal.
A special mention is also deserved of Mark
Hanrahan a past pupil of the school, who was selected on the Irish u23 team
for the European Cross-Country Championships to be held in December.
